Style Hacks: How to shop for a new season

Posted April 12, 2016 by Bethanie Lunn

So with summer fast approaching it’s time to ditch the jumpers and coats, Horrah!

When a new season comes along I get excited to re jig my wardrobe and experiment with the new trends. But shopping for new things can be a bit daunting, not to mention stressful if you’re short for time.

If you have a busy lifestyle like me, the likelihood is you don’t have the luxury of spending a whole day indulging in retail therapy. So here is my survival guide for sorting out your summer wardrobe so you can avoid those early morning ‘i have nothing to wear’ freak outs!

Spring clean:

Start with your wardrobe and store away your winter clothes into a separate space if possible! This will help you see what you’re working with.

Make a list:

Make a list or a mental note of pieces that you feel are missing, this will give you a focus when hitting the shops and you’ll avoid making cheeky impulse buys!

Experiment with new trends:

Looking put together in the mornings with little sleep can seem like a chore, but if you add a little excitement into your wardrobe it might seem more appealing. Try something new and don’t scared to try new styles out to add something different to your wardrobe.

My top picks:

A hat:

May seem straight forward but it can complete an outfit. It also shields you from the sun, which if you’re a pale kid like me, works a treat.

A maxi dress:

They come in so many different fits, patterns and colours, the worlds your oyster. Go for a neutral tone, this increases versatility. And shorter ladies don’t be afraid, you can pull these off too. Add a belt to cinch in your waist, or a wedge heel to add some height.

The statement necklace:

You receive an unexpected text from your friend after the school run to see if you want to go for coffee but you had 5 minutes to get ready and didn’t have time to dress up?! A statement necklace will be your saving grace! Keep one in your handbag ready and waiting for those spontaneous coffee dates.

Ballet wrap top:

Not only are these tops a great basic to have in any mums wardrobe they are great for summer as when undone can act as a kimono. Paired with trousers, shorts or skirts, they’re the perfect basic and come in a range of colours and prints.

Culottes: The bonus piece

Culottes are a personal favourite of mine. Not only are they cool and comfy for the warmer months they give the illusion that you’re wearing a skirt with the practicality of trousers. What a bonus!
