Review: Moon Mani at Powder Beauty Boutique, Brighton

Posted February 18, 2014 by Bethanie Lunn

Walking into Powder Beauty Boutique in Brighton is like stepping inside a charming amalgamation of a 1940s tea parlour meets vintage boutique and powder room.
Glass cabinets display vintage china and an exclusive range of vintage-inspired jewellery for sale by coveted labels such as Bow & Crossbones and Anna Lou of London. Hat stands drip with individual vintage finds sourced by the owner, Rachel Kutschker herself a style aficionado, having worked backstage at London and Paris Fashion week in addition to photo shoots for the likes of Vogue and I.D.

It’s no wonder then why many flock to Powder not just to ponder the vintage interior or splurge on the exclusive buys, but to receive a first class range of beauty treatments too.
From express treatments such as mini manicures to the more artistic nail art, minx and gel overlays- to tanningwaxing and massages – they’ve got your modern beauty needs covered. Advanced treatments including specialist facials and eyelash extensions are also on offer and it’s particular noteworthy that Powder is Brighton’s original eyelash boutique, being dubbed ‘the leading eyelash salon of the south’.

As I visited the salon before the London Fashion Week AW14 frenzy, I opted for nail art to compliment my range of outfits and went with the on-trend moon mani using gel overlays.

A moon mani is when the half moons at the base of your nail are painted a different colour to the rest of your talons.  It’s an incredibly fashion forward look which Powder has of course mastered.

Having chosen coral-pink and white (both seasonal colours), my gorgeous and friendly therapist painted the nails white all over and then added the colour on top, leaving a semi-circle free and thus allowing the white from underneath to pop through.

I was impressed with how efficient the treatment was, by the knowledge of the team and how relaxed I was made to feel.  I couldn’t help but look around me the whole time and be inspired by the glittering surroundings.  Every detail has been well thought out, from the coffee table reads and ornate mirrors to the uber-stylish wallpaper and intimate lighting.
Sure enough while at LFW, my moon mani was spotted and snapped by photographers and bloggers and I told them with pride, ‘they’re by Powder in Brighton’.

If you want up-to-date treatments and enjoy the benefits of having a boutique and salon under one roof, this is for you.
