My George at Asda #StyleYOUniform Work-Dress Look (& Why Dresses Rock)
Posted April 26, 2016 by Bethanie Lunn
Do you ever shop at George at Asda? I love that they capture the essence of fashion trends while providing basics that never date, not to mention the price tags which make having an up to date wardrobe attainable.
So when George challenged me to the #StyleYOUniform work-dress look , I jumped at the chance. The challenge? Take a dress or two and switch it up to take you from work to play easily and to suit your busy lifestyle. Work for me right now is jumping to my laptop as soon as the toddler and baby are asleep – if they miraculously nap simultaneously. I’m officially on maternity leave but, since writing and presenting are my passions – I still blog and vlog when I can. It provides a refreshing change from reflux and Paw Patrol!
My choice of clothing right now therefore has to be practical, comfortable, versatile and stylish. I want to feel like me but dashing about juggling several roles and responsibilities isn’t exactly mini-skirt-friendly. So with summer approaching too, well kinda, my go-to choice right now is dresses.
Many of my girl friends assume dresses are difficult to style and only lend themselves to going out (and when do we do that anymore?!), but I’m here to change their mind. Dresses offer me the versatility I need and are so easy to wear. Slip a dress on over your head and you’re good to go. There is no squeezing into it like jeans, no obvious muffin top as with a tight fitting tee and, unlike a separate top and bottom, with a dress your outfit is already sorted out for you, saving you time. Dresses are very flattering too, skimming over your wobbly bits and showing off your best bits. Since I gave birth nine weeks ago – this is an attribute I welcome.
So since my office currently varies from dining table, to lap, to cafe to conference, to YouTube – here is how I styled up my two George dresses. I hope you can see how they can look glam and professional (on duty) and relaxed and practical (off duty), with a few simple tweaks…
The Dress: The Polka Dot Maxi Dress
Off Duty: Blogging & Vlogging at Home
On Duty: At a Business Conference
The Dress: Embroidered Denim Dress
Off Duty: Being Mum
On Duty: Out and About Vlogging then Drinks
The George Essentials:
Polka Dot Maxi Dress, £16
Metallic Tote Bag, £16
Necklaces by Lara & Ollie, both £15.95. These are amazing as they’re actually teething necklaces. Although tots aren’t always required to wear them since they add a pop of colour to your outfit at any time, if you are with your little ones – they can gnaw or suckle on these silicone necklaces which are completely safe and keep busy hands and sore gums happy, while leaving you looking like you’ve made a bit of an effort!
The Floral Bomber Jacket (similar)
The long sleeved tee (similar)
The Beanie (similar)
With just a few pieces, I have several looks to take me through work, rest and play. Do I sound like a Mars Bar advert?
Update: me in the denim dress, along with a number of other fabulous ladies, has been featured on the George blog where you can vote for your favourite look. I’d love you to vote for me if you think I’m rocking it well in such good company. You can vote here. Thank you x
