Home Style Inspiration: Powder Beauty Boutique
Posted July 30, 2015 by Bethanie Lunn
I recently visited the new Powder Beauty Boutique, Brighton in their new premises (36a Duke Street, Brighton). The team decided to relocate to a building across the street for more light, space and premium surroundings. This is 100% the right decision since the building itself is exquisite. A winding staircase takes you up to the salon where you are greeted by the reception room and manicure stations. Cosy mustard/mossy green velvet armchairs perfectly pick out the winter blooms of the floral accent wall while dark oak floorboards and chairs with a contrasting mono print add a grandiose feel.
Upstairs to the treatment rooms, you’ll find the Cherry Blossom Suite, Butterfly Suite, Vogue Room and Bird Room, so called after their main design features.
Accent walls seem to be a running style touch throughout the salon but it is the Vogue Room with its jade green gallery wall, adorned with vintage Vogue cover prints that leaves me salivating. Just look at it. Stunning, right? It makes me want to rush out and buy paint – this one.
I asked Owner and Creator, Rachel Kutschker where she gets he inspiration, ‘I just pick things I like and put them all together’, she says humbly. In this case, she has a natural flair for style, the best form, although I’m sure some of it is down to her some 17 years in the fashion and beauty worlds. In fact, framed prints of Rachel’s work from he illustrious career is found throughout the salon. From her metallic talons for Sunday Times Style to creations for Vogue and the famous Pirelli calendar.
I don’t know about you but I’m definitely going to be recreating some of these looks at home. Rachel uses Farrow & Ball paint, though the jade green is from Fired Earth (South Bank), wallpaper is from Mister Smith and many of her vintage finds have been collected over the years. ‘I love to go to the Ardingly Antiques and Collectors Fair‘, reveals Rachel, ‘browsing fairs like that, flea markets and just keeping my eye out everywhere I go has formed most of what you see’.
Rachel’s omnipresent eclectic style is so inspiring that I’ve now made a wish list of things to do, places to go and items to buy. Oh and it’s not just the interior that will leave you smiling form ear to ear, the beauty services are fabulous too. I’ve been blogging for Powder for exactly a year now, enjoying a fresh new manicure every month to illustrate the latest trends and creative ideas. Check this one out…
It’s my personal homage to Pride Brighton this weekend alongside championing the current multi-colour nail trend. Why not? Pay Powder a visit and treat yourself, if not for a treat just for the eyes.
