Grown Up Glitter Makeup for Party Season

Posted December 10, 2014 by Bethanie Lunn

If you’re looking for a party makeup look that is both pretty and edgy, you’ve found it.  I wore this recently for ‘date night’.  My creation boasts neutral, glowing skin, smokey eyes, luscious lashes and an iridescent plum lip, or you could opt for the above lip as an alternative – a warm golden nude.

How To:

FACE
Keep skin fresh with Shiseido Sheer and Perfect Compact, £29. This is a real time-saver, sponging on like a powder but giving the heavier coverage of a foundation.  It feels so light on your skin – I love it.
EYES
Using TOPSHOP’s Smokey Eye Palette in ‘Subversive’, £12 sweep the lightest pale gold over each eyelid and up to your brow bone.  Line upper and lower lashes with the black shade using a liner brush and blend into the outer corners.  Paint the silver tone across your lower lid and smudge into your lower lashes then blend the shades with the mink shadow, and into your socket line, for that smudged smokey look.

Now add the sparkle!  Take Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner, £14 in ‘Midnight Cowboy’, a festive gold shade. It has a thin liner brush applicator making it so easy to use.  Just line upper and lower lashes, with extra emphasis in the inner corners to make eyes pop, then tidy up any loose flecks or mistakes with makeup remover wipes.  Finally, lift under-eye bags with Shiseido Sheer Eye Zone Corrector, £23.50 for impressive uplifting results.

LASHES AND BROWS
Apply lashings of mascara to top and bottom lashes – DHC Perfect Pro Double Protection Mascara in ‘Black’, £14.50 is my favourite since the brush applicator is thin, allowing you to coat each lash – even the smaller ones in the inner corner and it, quite literally, wraps each lash in colour and volume.

I finish the eye area with Maybelline Brow Drama, £4.99 in ‘Dark Brown’ for definition.

LIPS
Finish with edgy plum lips, they’re so current. TOPSHOP’s Plum Lipstick in ‘Drive’, £8 suits most skin tones thanks to its warm tone and subtle sparkle, whereas the golden nude of TOPSHOP ‘Mercurial‘, £8 is a softer alternative which will put all the emphasis on those peepers.
